The basic concept of this chair is a stackable chair with a solid wood frame. Normally, making a
stackable chair with a solid frame limits the design possibility because of the need to increase the
strength, and is a challenge for designers in striking a good balance while maximizing the softness of
the wood. The chair has only one surface to join the rear legs and the seat frame, requiring stronger
joints, which is the joint surface that adds strength. Chairs must be designed to meet the standards
of the official strength test to accommodate people weighing 50 kg to 120 kg. Also, the production
of wooden stackable chairs with a good design balance requires the technical capacity to ensure
strength. Our effort in designing a strong joint for the rear legs and seat frame achieved simplicity
in a well-balanced stackable chair. The backboard comes in two variations, and each design has its
own name. This chair, named a chair out of the cage, features a wicker back resembling a cage, just
like the name suggests. A wicker seat adds softness to the back support in a lightweight design. The
rear view of the chair creates a sense of lightness because the knitted wickerwork inside the solid
frame offers a see-through view of the other side. The relaxing, comfortable seat is made possible
by the ample wicker backboard.
Another variation is the a chair in the forest, which conjures images of a chair amongst the trees.
Featuring a curved solid wood for the backboard, the chair is entirely made of wood, giving the
impression of a lush forest.
